Lady Minto Hospital, on Salt Spring Island, is a fine medical facility
supported in part by : a Lady Minto Foundation, a Ladies Auxillery, the local
Lions Club, and private donations.
The hospital first started in 1914, it's current building was built in 1958.
Named after the wife of the Earl of Minto, who was the Governor General of
Canada in the early 1900's. Lady Minto campaigned for good health care in
rural areas, and helped establish many of the hospitals in these areas.
In a serious emergency, Lady Minto Hospital's goal is to stablize the patient and send the
patient by air to a more advanced hospital in Victoria or Nanaimo on Vancouver
Island.
There is a health food store, Seniors for Seniors facility, an extended care
facility & home care support staff. There are a range of health care
professionals on Salt Spring Island, both mainstream and alternative, from
accupressure to yoga.
For non-human companions, there is a full service veterinary clinic on Salt Spring Island.
Beside the clinic is a dog grooming service, & behind is the SPCA office.
